Community of Slocum, Texas

 
 

On a Saturday May 7th, 2011 a oil field "work-over" rig sits idle as one approaches downtown Slocum, Texas. One can still stand in one place in this small community and view ten oil wells pumping the "Texas Tea" that was discovered here in the late 1950's.  

Today Slocum residents continue improve their the community with the Slocum Water Supply Corporation (pictured left) which is open Monday through Fridays from 8:00am to 3:00pm,  telephone number (903) 478-3486 or in case of emergency (903) 727-4770 or (903) 727-9461.  On the right is the Slocum Volunteer Fire Department, The volunteer fire department's President is Dan Hernandez and Fire Chief is Ben Missildine.          

How do you know you are arriving in Slocum and Mustang Country?  Traveling from Palestine along highway 294  an oil well beside Strong Memorial Park might be a great clue!  Click here for map to Slocum.
